Developing a Student Recruitment Strategy through District Partnerships

Chantelle George Consulting works across community-based organizations, K-12 districts, and employer partnerships to accelerate student recruitment.

The Client

Founded in 2021, Opportunity College is a nonprofit, online two-year college offering the personalized support and belonging of a community school at the scale and quality of a national institution. Opportunity College will unlock socioeconomic mobility for tens of thousands of students annually by providing the best of both foundational higher education learning experiences and career-connected postsecondary training.

Opportunity College: Context + Needs

In preparation for their first cohort, Opportunity College leaned to Chantelle George Consulting for both a partnership and recruitment strategy. The following needs were to:

  • Develop a student recruitment strategy for Opportunity College to vet and select best-fit students to participate in the pilot.

  • Review current K-12 districts and charter management organizations in the pipeline to understand the landscape of the district/charter system and the targeted high schools.

  • Aid in selection of the K-12 districts and charter management organization partners based on current landscape and level of engagement.

Chantelle George Consulting Insights + Approach

Chantelle George Consulting supported Opportunity College by creating district partnerships with independent school districts and large charter management organizations in Texas, New York, Washington DC, New Jersey, and Connecticut. In addition, Chantelle George Consulting managed the marketing, application, and recruitment process for prospective students alongside workforce career organizations such as Generation USA and Merit America.

Organizational Impact

Opportunity College recruited 200 prospective students who met the student profile through these designated partnerships. Through this applicant funnel, Opportunity College was able to secure 136 applicants for the first cohort and eventually would go on to graduate over 30 students with postsecondary training.
