Developing Culturally Responsive Postsecondary Curriculum and Staff Training

Chantelle George Consulting works with organizations to develop college and career readiness curriculum and staff training modules.

Our culturally responsive curriculum can be customized by grade level.

The Client

From inception in 2008, Austin-based Con Mi MADRE’s (CMM) focus has been on helping young Latinas graduate from high school, enroll in college, and successfully earn a college degree. CMM believes and understand the importance of parent engagement in the educational process and intentionally engage mothers in every aspect of our programming. Con Mi MADRE'S are building our nation’s educated workforce and the next generation of confident and diverse female leaders.

Con Mi MADRE: Context + Needs

In the past, Con Mi Madre did not have a strong onboarding or staff training its employees. Classroom instruction expectations and responsibilities, building rapport, and assessing learning were very difficult to teach their team members and program staff. Like many community-based organizations, the organization was very limited with time and capacity to take on these large projects that are crucial for program fidelity.

Chantelle George Consulting Insights + Approach

Chantelle George Consulting partnered with Con Mi Madre leadership and program team to produce a culturally responsive curriculum and training that reflected the population of students they served. CGC and CMM teams regularly met to revise lesson plans to make them more culturally relevant and grade level appropriate. The curriculum and training topics included:

  • Envisioning a Post-Secondary Education

  • Managing Peer Pressure & Belongingness

  • Our Body: Changes in Physical and Mental Self

  • Women of Color in STEM

  • Coping with College Acceptance Results

This curriculum and training was implemented with the support of Chantelle George Consulting via virtual implementation training in Spring 2021.

Organizational Impact

Chantelle George Consulting developed social emotional skill-building and college and career readiness lesson plans for students in grades 6-12. In addition, CGC consultants built customizable training modules for teachers and program staff who teach curriculum and lead program implementation.
